Vortex RT: first full season

I am going to build on my post about the new Endura/Pedal Power development team with a few more posts on new road race teams in Scotland. If anyone has any other new teams they would like to plug, please send me info.

Vortex RT was formed in 2010 by Colin Bark, Jeremy Greengrass and Tom Worthington and over the next few years the 2012 construction and opening of the ‘Chris Hoy Velodrome’ for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014 will change the sport forever, Vortex RT want to be ready for the changes that are going to take place and the club ethos is based on helping these inevitable changes take place smoothly, while getting riders experienced and competitive in the kinds of events that will become common in the velodrome.

With this in mind, the team will ride the track in 2011: all riders are expected to be available for the DHL Meadowbank track league, starting on 19th April.

The team is sponsored by Conquest clothing, a new brand with a race fit to their jerseys, shorts and other apparel. The company has provided custom club kit and supplies the Glasgow Nightingale and the Scottish Veterans Time Trial Association.

Vortex will also be running the Scottish National Road Race Championship in 2011. It is exciting to have a new organiser and promoter, after some difficulty with races in recent years. The team seem to have launched into it with great enthusiasm which is fantastic to see.

Additional – Vortex RT will be sponsored by Glasgow bike shop Solid Rock Cycles and Glasgow architecture and design firm The Miller Partnership. A new kit design including these sponsors will be revealed soon, and I’m told it’ll stand out from the crowd.
