I had meant to preview this event but didn’t get time. Please give me the benefit of the doubt for the next paragraph…
What I was going to say was ‘who can top reigning champion Arthur Doyle?’. After seeing him clean up in the early season TTs with some blistering times, he then turned his attention to some road races, being active in the Sam Robinson and the Scottish Road Race champs. He would have been my tip for the win, but then that was a bit like saying Barcelona were favourites for the European Cup last night.

My other question would have been ‘how well can Evan Oliphant go?’. He had a sketchy incident at the 10 champs last year, where he was brushed by a car and suffered minor damage to his equipment, but his ride was ruined. After a season of European and Premier Calendar racing, with some Scottish wins thrown in, I thought he would also go well.
Then I was wondering how a former clubmate, Rob Wilkins, would get on. Known more as a climber, he had put in some impressive TT performances lately, such as at last year’s Tour de Trossachs, the Knockhill MTT earlier this year, and some local 10s. I had seen times under 21 minutes, and with full TT bike and kit from Velo Ecosse, I thought he might have a chance of podium, and this idea was confirmed by another rider on twitter who was travelling up to ride the champs.
So- this morning Arthur Doyle won the Scottish 10 mile time trial championships in a time of 20.41, while Evan Oliphant took silver with 20:59 and Rob Wilkins the bronze medal in 21.07.
Wish I had got round to that preview piece now!
