Jason McIntyre commemorated

Saturday 5th September – Scottish Cycling Renewables Super6 Series. Round 6 at Wanlockhead- the Tour of the Lowthers.

The ‘B’ race for novice riders (cat 4), juniors (under 18), 50+ and 60+ vets was run over 2 laps of a course from Wanlockhead, through Leadhills and Abington

The most aggressive rider of the day received a special prize, which was in commemoration of Jason McIntyre, a Scottish road racer and time triallist who was tragically killed by a car in 2008.

It was a cool prize to win, partly because there were no significant breakaways on the day. So the organiser asked the leading riders who they thought was most deserving of the prize.

The prize was a signed poster of Belgian cycling great Freddy Maertens. Freddy was touched to hear of McIntyre’s story, so donated the poster in his honour. Jason was the first person to enter the Tour of the Lowthers race in 2008 but sadly was not to take part.
